Saint-Gobain Formula UK project: An operational plant

Following the launch of the Saint-Gobain Formula mixing plant extension project in the United Kingdom in 2024, the mixing tower is now operational and ready to support the site’s growth ambitions.

A successful start-up

The installation, cabling and all testing and commissioning phases have been successfully completed.
The key project milestones have been achieved:

• Transfer of raw materials from the existing plant to the silos of the new facility, managed by Actemium Nottingham
• Completion of Input/Output (I/O) testing
• Dry commissioning tests, followed by wet commissioning tests, validating the overall capacity of the installation and the dosing accuracy for raw materials, additives, and micro-additives
• Training of line operators and drivers, including in the use of the Prodose® production management software
• Production ramp-up support, implementation of remote connection and support

All of these steps have secured the transition to a stable and high-performing production phase.

A major technical and human challenge

The project stood out for its high level of operational complexity. Up to 40 workers were simultaneously mobilised on site, requiring intensive coordination among the various trades involved (mechanical, electrical, lifting, elevator, etc.). Actemium-Sofraden successfully managed this project as principal contractor.
This context presented a genuine challenge, particularly with simultaneous work at height and mechanical operations, weather-related constraints (wind, frost) affecting certain lifting operations, and demanding site logistics.
Through close coordination and continuous communication with Saint-Gobain Formula, all stakeholders were able to stay on track and ensure steady project progress.

At this stage of the project, the first production line is now operational. The tower has been specifically designed to accommodate up to three production lines allowing for the integration of additional lines in a potential second phase and enabling Saint-Gobain Formula to significantly increase its capacity and flexibility.
